Can eating walnuts will be key to healthy heart? New research shows that eating walnuts hands provides immediate protection against heart disease. Regular intake would provide permanent protection.

The researchers also have found a significant improvement in cholesterol levels and the flexibility of blood vessels, which helps for good blood flow, just four hours after people ate nuts or nut oil. Research shows that regular consumption may lead to long-term protection from cardiovascular disease.

“And only a handful of walnuts or walnut oil four days a week can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease,” said Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, professor of nutrition at Penn State University in Pennsylvania.

This study is the first that identify the part of walnuts that provides the greatest health benefits.

Why are walnuts good for the hearth?

Consuming only three tablespoons (51 g) walnut oil improves the condition of blood vessels after four hours.

Walnut oil is proved to be especially good for the integrity of endothelial cells. It is the cells which relieves the blood vessels and play an important role in their flexibility.

Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids, plant sterols and vitamin E, and all of the above lower the cholesterol and protects the blood vessels.
